Mr. James L. Allen, age 61 of McDonough, Georgia in Henry County died June 11, 2017. Jim was born October 16, 1955 in Kileen, Texas to Lavera Futch Allen and the late James Henry Allen. He was preceded in death by a brother and a granddaughter, Alfred Allen of Florida and Brooklynn Elyse of Alabama. Jim faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and was last stationed in Warner Robins, GA, where he served as Presidential K-9 Support for President Jimmy Carter. Mr. James L. Allen, age 61 of McDonough, Georgia in Henry County died June 11, 2017. Jim was born October 16, 1955 in Kileen, Texas to Lavera Futch Allen and the late James Henry Allen. He was preceded in death by a brother and a granddaughter, Alfred Allen of Florida and Brooklynn Elyse of Alabama. Jim faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and was last stationed in Warner Robins, GA, where he served as Presidential K-9 Support for President Jimmy Carter. Although he did not actively participate in the Vietnam War, he was a veteran of that war. In 1977, he married Delores Lavender, formerly of Simpsonville, SC and began his life as a husband and then a father when his three boys were born in 1980, 1982 and 1985. He then moved to McDonough with his wife and their boys. He worked for many years with the Department of Corrections in Atlanta and then Forsyth, Georgia, retiring in 2015 because of his health. Survivors include his wife, Delores Allen; mother, Lavera Allen; his three sons and their families, James Anthony Allen and Nicole Hinson of Mt. Juliet, TN, Aaron Nicholas and Renee Allen of McDonough, GA, Charles Henry and Ashley Allen of Pell City, AL; five grandchildren he loved very much, Jacob, Katelyn, Kaila, Jaxon and Piper; siblings, Jon Allen and Christie Allen, Keith and Susan Reiter and Jan Allen all of Valdosta. Before his illness, he was an active member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association District Team where he and his wife were Educators. His extended family also included many members all over the Southeast. At his request, a memorial service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 – 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 4:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to Relay for Life of Henry County in memory of Jim.
